West Virginia University Health Sciences Center Mentoring Program
The purpose of this program is to provide an objective advisory relationship for junior faculty that will complement the existing academic structure. The mentor/advisee relationship can focus upon “big picture” issues such as the adoption of academic values, managing an academic career and establishing and maintaining a productive network of colleagues. Other potential areas for exploration include: Committees and organizations that will help in career development Which academic opportunities to pursue (collaborations, writing and speaking opportunities, career-enhancing committee and service choices) Time management Effective networking Balance of personal and professional life Use of simultaneous multiple mentors over time for various aspects of career needs WVU considers the nurturing and development of successful academic careers to be of utmost importance and priority.
