Kimberly BlakeFifth-year Pharmaceutical Systems & Policy doctoral student.
Hometown: Birmingham, Alabama Where did you obtain your undergraduate degree? Pharmacy at Auburn University Why did you choose WVU? I was out in practice for a while and actually moved to West Virginia with my husband who is from here. While I was out in practice I decided that I wanted to do something a little different than what I was doing as a pharmacist. So I got a MBA from WVU. Following that, I was interested in doing research and so it was a natural course for me to go right into the Ph.D. program at WVU. What are your career ambitions? I want to go into academia. I want to be a professor either in a school of pharmacy or school of public health. Who do you hope to help? As far as teaching, I want to help other students to learn about research and if it’s in a school of pharmacy – about good patient care. Globally, I want to help people by doing research that looks at risks of heart disease, see how we can decrease those risks, and help health care providers motivate their patients to make the changes they need to make. Do you have any awards or accomplishments? Robert E. Stitzel Graduate Student Support Fund - Professional Development Award; Graduate Student Research Award from the School of Pharmacy; American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) Pre-doctoral Fellowship What is your favorite part of your research? I like the quantitative part of it. I like seeing it applied in real life and in policy. Do you have any hobbies? My main hobbies are hiking and reading. |
