Group Support
Through regular group meetings, participants learn how to improve communication with each other, family members, friends, and co-workers through positive self-expression. These meetings are led by licensed mental health professionals who work closely with participants to improve communication skills and to encourage a sense of caring and connectedness among group members.

Nutrition
Participants follow a low-fat, whole foods nutrition plan that emphasizes whole grains, fresh vegetables, and fruit. The nutrition component focuses on plant-based, fat/oil-free cooking and eating. Registered dietitians provide lectures on weight management, shopping (which includes a grocery store tour) and meal planning, as well as useful cooking demonstrations on ways to prepare quick and easy Ornish meals. Dietary recommendations are customized based on individual needs and preferences.

Stress Management
Because of the strong correlation between mental wellness and physical health, participants are taught techniques such as stretching, relaxation, breathing, visualization, and meditation that reduce stress and increase awareness of the mind/body connection. Instruction is also given on how to handle everyday pressures and stresses to avoid unnecessary and unhealthy changes in blood pressure and heart rate.
