Terri Palmer - Healthier Weigh - 2001

I started on a weight loss plan about a year after my father died from diabetic related complications. He was 57 when he died. At the time of his death, I was very overweight, the heaviest I had ever been.

I came to the understanding that my potential health and weight problems were all up to me to control. I had tried all the weight loss plans in the past: Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast. All of them worked for a while but soon all the weight, and then some, came right back on. The problem with these plans was that I never followed through with making a lifestyle change.

About a year ago, I started cutting back on what I was eating and exercising more frequently. I still eat some of my favorite foods, but I watch what I eat and how much.

I have lost a little over 80 pounds in the past year and I feel great. Recently I had my blood sugar and cholesterol checked – both are in the low, normal range. I credit part of my success to the Wellness Programs, especially the "Healthier Weigh" program where my co-worker Maria T. and I teamed up for diet and exercise and won a pair of bicycles.
