Since Catherine started participating in Wellness Program activities several months ago, she has been able to lose 30 pounds and lower her cholesterol by 50 points without medication! This was largely due to her participation in Weight Watchers at Work, but also a new realization that once she was able to change one set of behaviors that she would then be able to change others.
Once she was in control of her nutrition, it was time to address exercise through our Personal Fitness Coaching program. She liked this program because the exercises fit into her lifestyle, they weren’t intimidating, and they were time manageable. For the first time, she wants to exercise and actually looks forward to it because it is so much easier.
Her advice for anyone who wants to make a health behavior change is this: “If you are someone like me who HATED working out, you have to find an enjoyable physical activity that distracts you from the fact you are exercising. Record your favorite shows only in front of your treadmill and only watch when you are exercising. Don't be intimidated by group exercise classes. The only person people are watching is the instructor. Just keep moving and keep a sense of humor. Don't bother with eating plans that make you completely give up the foods you love most. If you gain control of your choices and habits, nothing is off limits.”
