What
is Expanding Your Horizons?
An exciting day-long conference to help girls in grades 6-9 learn about
career opportunities in science and math, and how to prepare for them.
Hands-on activities with women in science and math-based careers.
Who
should get this brochure?
Girls in 6th-9th grades.
Girls who like science and math, even if they dont think
they are good at it. EYH stresses the idea that math is fundamental to
all science and technology careers, and that everyone can learn math.
Girls who have an aptitude in science and/or math, even if they
dont visualize themselves in a science or math career right now.
EYH gives girls a chance to interact with professional women from around
the state, and may spark an interest.
What
do participants have to do to attend?
Pre-registration postmarked by April 21 is required for all participants,
including parents. The registration form can be copied. The $5 registration

a limited number of fee waivers are available. Please contact Erica Harvey
at eharvey@mail.fscwv.edu to request a waiver.
What
about parents and other adults?
Accompanying adults are welcome! Adult sessions include how to overcome
math anxiety, how to help daughters prepare for college, how to afford
college, parent resources, and educational/career opportunities and resources
for adults (e.g., resume and job opportunities, community education, continuing
education and degree programs)
Can
older girls attend?
Yes. Though the brochure doesnt mention this, we welcome the participation
of 10th-12th grade girls as assistants to workshop leaders. No experience
is necessary. Interested girls should email
Dr. Erica Harvey at eharvey@mail.fscwv.edu for more details.
