"A Discussion of Biochemical Research and Unconventional Career Paths in Science." The Department of Surgery and the members of the WV Association for Women in Science (AWIS) hosted a luncheon for Jane S. Richardson, James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry, Duke University, as part of the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program on Friday, Nov 15, 2002. Jane Richardson pioneered ribbon drawings for representing protein structures and described many of the Greek key beta barrels, right-handed crossovers, helix caps and cis Pro touch-turns. She earned a B.A. degree in philosophy form Swarthmore College and, without benefit of a Ph.D., has become a biophysicist, a MacArthur fellow, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and James B. Duke Professor in the department of biochemistry. She is the recipient of two honorary degrees. For more information, contact Linda Vona-Davis, PhD. |
