Application and Interview Procedures

Applicants for the internship should have completed at least three years of graduate work which includes a minimum of 275 AAPI intervention and assessment hours. A Master's degree in psychology is required. Interns are expected to be familiar with the fundamentals of psychological assessment, interviewing, and psychotherapy. In addition, interns must be adept at utilizing interview material, have experience with behavioral assessment and therapy, and have some exposure to psychological testing. The internship faculty strongly prefer students who have had their dissertation proposal accepted and data collected prior to arriving for internship. The clinical internship program at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University accepts applications from students enrolled in American or Canadian Psychological Association accredited clinical or counseling programs only.
A completed application consists of the AAPI Online application, including a CV, 3 letters of recommendation, transcripts of all graduate work, and a cover letter. Include in the cover letter whether you are applying to the Adult Psychology or Neuropsychology emphasis area. Goals and interests indicated in the cover letter are very important in matching the applicant’s interests and the training opportunities available at our site. On-site interviews are arranged at the invitation of the internship faculty. Inquiries should be directed to Maria T. Moran, PhD, who serves as the Director of Internship Training.
