Social Work Internship
The Department offers Masters' students with a strong interest in clinical social work an opportunity to enhance their understanding of human behavior, psychopathology, and the development of clinical assessment and treatment skills. The Clinical Social Work Section is comprised of seven full-time faculty members all of whom are board certified in clinical social work (NASW or ABE) and licensed for independent clinical social work practice in West Virginia.
PBM-Mortantown Campus:Patient populations in Morgantown are primarily piutpatient and include chemical dependency;cognitive disorders and clinical gerotology;child, adolescent and family assessment and treatment. DBM-Weston Location; William R.Shrpe Jr. Hospital. Chronic mental illness and Forensic/adjudicated populations are served in this setting. Trainees in both locations will develop diagnostic evaluation skills and have the opportunity to work develop individual, family and group psychotherapy skills.
In addition to the Department's clinical experience, there are several ongoing clinical education and training programs in which social work interns may participate. These include, for example, weekly grand rounds, study groups (e.g., thought disorders), Family Therapy, Group Therapy and Basic Psychotherapy courses, and Department sponsored professional continuing education conferences.
