This
award was presented for the first time in 1989. It was developed to
enable the Health Sciences Center, Charleston Division, to recognize and
honor the scientific, research, and community service efforts of its
members, as well as honor members of the community who contribute to the
successful mission of health education in Charleston. The award is named for William J. Maier, Jr., a Charleston philanthropist, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Charleston Division, and who was a significant contributor to the health education and research efforts in the state of West Virginia. The award itself is special and one of a kind, consisting of a lovely piece of Steuben glass entitled "Star Stream." |
