Welcome to the West Virginia University-School of Medicine Charleston Division Website.

You are entering the information system of one of the Oldest Regional Medical Education Centers in the United States. This regional medical education center is an academic medical center consisting of the affiliation of West Virginia University and Charleston Area Medical Center. For the past 50 years, Charleston has had the privilege of educating residents; for the past 25 years, medical students who have benefited from the educational advantage of a university faculty and the teaching commitment of a large private practice community of physicians.

As Dean of the Charleston Division of the WVU-School of Medicine, I am pleased that you may be interested in receiving a portion of your medical education in our community. WVU-Charleston has committed itself to your education by affiliating itself with one of the largest tertiary hospitals in WV; the community has provided excellent housing and assured social accommodations for your families; and built an education center to house classrooms, medical library and information system and student services.

The WVU-Charleston faculty consists of 70+ members in six departments basic to the clinical education rotations of medical students from both allopathic and osteopathic schools. My office is open to all students and our Student Service Deans are on 24/7 call in order to assure accommodation of issues that might distract from the education mission so important to a medical career. Because the Charleston Division is a Health Science Center, there are many opportunities to interrelate with Social Work, Nursing, Dental and Pharmacy student experiences on this campus.
