Goal & Educational Purpose To prepare resident to diagnose and treat common dermatologic problems seen by general internists
Objectives Differentiate malignant and benign skin conditions; biopsy of appropriate lesions.
Diagnose and treat common dermatoses with and without dermatologic consultation, including eczema, contact dermatitis, infections, infestations, psoriasis, neurodermatitis, drug eruptions.
Recognize cutaneous signs of systemic disease.
Evaluation and differential diagnosis of bullous diseases.
Learn proper dermatologic terminology of primary and secondary lesions.
Cutaneous manifestations of HIV infection and AIDS.
Senile dermatoses and aging changes of the skin.
Proper and appropriate use of topical dermatologic agents on the face and remainder of the skin.
Learn use of woods lamp, microscopic analysis of skin scrapings for fungi and infestation.
Educational Content 2 to 4 week dermatology rotation with dermatologist.
Dermatology Clinic on rotation and when on ambulatory block rotation.
8:00 dermatology lectures.
Review teaching carousels of slides from dermatology section.
Learn biopsy techniques with dermatologist in the Residents Medicine Clinic.
Evaluation Results from ITE dermatology section.
Results from dermatology section on certifying examination.
Evaluation by resident of rotation and attending.
Evaluation of resident by the attending.
Resident reviews of dermatology from resident meetings and semi-annual reviews.
