Pulmonology

The Pediatrics Department of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston, is ready to care for the health needs of children in southern West Virginia by offering Pediatric Pulmonary services. These services are offered to pediatricians, family physicians, primary care providers, as well as schools and families. Referrals are requested before appointments can be made.

Dr. KaslovskyThe Pediatric Pulmonary Section is headed by Dr. Robert A Kaslovsky, a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist. Patients seen are those from birth through 21 years with a number of pulmonary related problems such as:

  1. Asthma
  2. Cystic Fibrosis (adults over 21 may also be seen for CF)
  3. Recurrent pneumonia
  4. Upper Airway problems such as croup, noisy breathing or stridor, snoring
  5. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  6. Exercise related problems
  7. Gastroesophageal reflux induced lung disease
  8. Immune related lung disease

 

Other services offered include:
Pulmonary  Function Testing – Spirometry: both pre and post bronchodilator testing may be ordered. Patients may have an appointment just for testing if desired.

Flexible bronchoscopy in infants and children – bronchoscopes of appropriate sizes are available to perform this procedure in infants, children, and adolescents. Procedures are scheduled in the operating room of Women and Children’s’ Hospital.

A comprehensive, multidisciplinary Cystic Fibrosis Clinic is twice a month. Sweat testing is available through the laboratory at Women and Children’s’ Hospital.

Sleep studies are not available from this office currently.

Research:
The office is involved with research looking into the relationship of obesity and asthma.
Clinical trials to test new drugs for asthma or CF are anticipated.

West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Patients may be referred by calling 304-388-1552. Dr. Kaslovsky sees patients 4 days a week, and is available to see patients who are hospitalized anytime.
