Education/Training
Prepare students for contemporary pharmacy practice by developing in them strong interpersonal communication,  problem-solving, and life-long learning skills and the ability to integrate and apply knowledge learned   in the pharmaceutical sciences to patient care.
Produce an advanced level of pharmacy practitioner, with the ability to accept leadership roles in the profession, through postgraduate specialty residency and fellowship training.
Assist West Virginia pharmacy practitioners to develop and enhance those skills needed to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care services.


Research/Scholary Activity
Promote and enhance the quality of pharmaceutical care through basic and applied research efforts, e.g., investigating drug efficacy and appropriate drug usage; studying the pharmacokinetics of drugs; evaluating quality of life and pharmacoeconomic issues, and pharmaceutical outcomes; designing, developing and evaluating the impact of professional pharmacy services; developing methods for improving the education and drug knowledge of students, patients, and health care providers, etc.
Foster the development of independent learners and scholars by providing an atmosphere that promotes use of the scientific method and new knowledge discovery.
Develop comprehensive, analytical reviews of the literature pertaining to individual drugs, the appropriate use of drug regimens, or contemporary drug therapy issues.

   

Service Provision
Provide patient care services that support education and training activities and promote the optimal, cost effective use of drug therapy.
Develop and support patient care oriented practice sites throughout West Virginia that serve as education/training experiences for students, and work as necessary with preceptors to enhance their ability to provide comprehensive pharmacy services in multidisciplinary settings.
Contribute to the advancement of pharmacy through activities such as involvement in professional organizations, editorial work, serving as a manuscript or grant reviewer, and providing professional or patient-oriented presentations.
Contribute to the mission of the School and University through activities such as committee service and student advising.
