Summer Shadowing Program

July 7 - August 1, 2008

During the first two years of medical school, education emphasizes basic sciences with limited opportunities for practical experience.  However, West Virginia University School of Medicine-Charleston Division, in cooperation with Charleston Area Medical Center, does provide an opportunity for exciting clinical training experiences to current 1^st year medical students in West Virginia.

 The Shadowing Program at WVU and CAMC links interested students with practicing clinicians in a variety of medical subspecialties.  This program allows the student a unique and personal opportunity to observe the practice of medicine.  It provides added experience that deepens a student’s reservoir of experience upon which to draw during the clinical years of medical school.  Shadowing will likely assist with career choice as well and increase familiarity with the hospital/medical office systems.
