AGES Certification Program

What is AGES?

The Advanced Geriatrics Educator Skills (AGES) program, was the nation’s first certification course promoting excellence in the clinical practice and teaching of geriatrics.

AGES was created for clinicians who care for the elderly and participate in the education of health care professionals - whether as part-time volunteer community-based faculty, or full-time academic faculty. The current practice of evidence-based geriatric medicine was presented in a comprehensive modular format as a readily accessible educational resource for geriatrics educators.

Former Project Goals and Objectives

Promoting excellence in the practice and teaching of geriatrics by primary care clinicians and pharmacists in communities, medical schools and residency programs.

  1. Provide primary care clinicians responsible for geriatric care with an evidence and outcomes based immersion in clinical geriatrics.
  2. Refine the educational skills of participants to more effectively teach clinical geriatrics to health professions students.
  3. Promote current practice management skills for all locations where paricipants deliver geriatric care.
  4. Recognize advanced skills in geriatric medical practice and education by awarding certification to participants who demonstrate competency in both a cognitive and an objective structured clinical examination.

Former Target Audience

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Nurses and Pharmacists who actively care for elderly patients, and are interested in or actively precepting and teaching health professions students.
