Although older adults represent about 15% of West Virginia’s population, little is known about the challenges and personal resources present to them. This symposium will examine such aspects of successful aging. Drawing on a common sampling frame and methodology, unique data sets address:

  1. theoretical aspects of successful aging;

  2. psychological resources; and

  3. potential threats to successful aging experienced by older rural adults.

This symposium will highlight theoretical, clinical, and service-delivery issues relevant to successful aging among the rural elderly.
