Develop Policy Recommendations

Attract the interest of political leaders in issues associated with rural aging to stimulate their political will to address these issues:

  1. Advocate for a substantial increase investment in rural development policies that affect older people
  2. Awareness-raising: promote awareness-raising activities around the key issues affecting older people in rural and remote areas in civil society, with special emphasis on older people and their organizations with policy-makers at all levels
  3. Stronger advocacy for representation in law-making bodies for older people
  4. Raise awareness of the key issues in rural aging in the wider development debates at local, national, regional and international levels
  5. Ensure that older people in rural locations participate in, or are duly represented in , policy-making processes and procedures which affect them
  6. Promote programs and projects which aim to empower older people in rural areas and promote their participation and integration in development processes at all levels
  7. Use reliable research data, desegregated by age and sex, to inform policy-makers, at all levels, of specific policy needs of individual countries
  8. Build alliances with key partners working on rural development (international agencies, NGO’s and other civil society organizations) to include aging issues in rural development policies
