Emergency service providers traditionally have not included prevention in their scope of work. However, there is prevention going on in emergency departments and in pre-hospital settings. This session will discuss programs that provide clinical preventive services to elder patients, present a framework to decide on the usefulness of services, and describe some future opportunities to improve the function of elder patients. Special attention will be paid to the opportunities and challenges in implementing prevention in rural areas.
