Objectives
The workshop will aim to improve understanding of the various conditions that can produce changes in cognitive status among older adults, the ability to appropriately administer, score, and interpret a cognitive screen, and the ability to address some of the obstacles within the work setting that can interfere with staff use of this screening protocol.
Discussion of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias;
Behaviors affected by cognitive impairment;
How to administer and score the mini-mental status exam (MMSE);
How to administer and score the geriatric depression scale (GDS);
How to administer a cognitive assessment protocol;
How to make appropriate referrals based on resulting scores.
