Objectives

This four hour workshop will describe the public health perspective in health promotion and disability prevention with older adults, highlighting the role of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in aging research, surveillance, and program activities. Topics to be covered include: an overview of the objectives of prevention activities with elders; chronic disease risk reduction; improving immunization coverage; falls prevention; managing sensory impairments; and future directions in aging at CDC. Activities and issues related to serving rural elders will be emphasized.
