WV Rural Healthy Aging® Network

The WV Rural Healthy Aging® Network at the WVU Center on Aging is a member of the national Healthy Aging Research Network (HAN), which is funded by the CDC. RHAN contributes to the HAN mission by assisting in the development of a research and dissemination agenda related to the public health aspects of healthy aging.

Our research at the WV Rural Healthy Aging® Network (RHAN) focuses on the determinants of healthy aging among rural older adult populations.   Our goals are to identify interventions that promote healthy aging and assist in the translation of such research into sustainable rural, community-based programs.

What is healthy aging?

Healthy aging is the development and maintenance of optimal physical, mental and social well-being and function in older adults. It is most likely to be achieved when physical environments and communities are safe, and support the adoption and maintenance by individuals of attitudes and behaviors known to promote health and well-being; and by the effective use of health services and community programs to prevent or minimize the impact of acute and chronic disease on function.

You can find out more about healthy aging while visiting our website.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
