Hansbarger

"Every day I look forward to my job as Associate Vice President of the WVU-HSC-Charleston Divison, because the mission of education, service and research is so gratifying."
- L. Clark Hansbarger, MD

We have identified five fund-raising priorities for the WVU Health Sciences Center - Charleston Division:

Endowment of Academic Faculty
Obtain Programmatic Endowments in all disciplines: Medicine, Nursing, Surgery, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Behavioral Medicine and Dentistry will help to identify leadership dollars for the Departmental Chairs. Endowments for Departmental Chairs and Professorships in all disciplines will continue in the direction of supporting our mission to educating caring health professionals and being able to provide these services by recruiting additional support.

Facility Development
Continue to gain support from friends and alumni to upgrade our educational classroom technology, medical library/informatics technology; Auditorium; environmental ambiance of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center; and the must to advance our performance based lab/simulation center for the medical professionals.

Geriatric Center of Excellence
This new program will involve clinical and educational services and require new facility space. The Geriatric Center will greatly improve the quality and availability of services to the senior citizens. Funds raised will help support various disciplines of medical professionals and specialty services we wish to make available to the elderly. This will involve continuous support from endowment dollars and non-endowed support from "friends" in order to continue the progress necessary to the research and teaching.

Faculty Development
Additional faculty educational development support for continuing education; resources for faculty travel- e.g. conferences to increase academic achievement at the highest levels. In addition, build on existing faculty funds: Al Pfister Outstanding Medical Student Award, Warren Point Chair of Internal Medicine, Bert Bradford Chair of Surgery, Dean's Fund, and the Pomerance Pediatric Library Fund.

Student Enrichment
Develop scholarships for "advanced learning" for students. Provide students with resources to perform at alternative training sites: (rural, home town, urban) and advancement in learning resources readily available to them. Contributions to informatics technology advancement for the students will aid in both academic and achievement time giving our students the most of lectures, research and teaching is our focus to progress.
