Research

The best hospitals and universities in the world are known not only for their clinical care and educational quality, but also for their research. Research allows patients to participate in trials of new pharmaceutical drugs and to receive cutting edge care protocols that lead to cures; informs great teaching; and advances the recruitment and retention of the best basic scientists and physician-scientists in the world. Research at West Virginia University affords West Virginians and those throughout the region and around the globe the ability to receive the benefits of state-of-the-art care for years to come.

Our strategic research plan is poised to make a significant difference through the full implementation of six interdisciplinary research centers including neuroscience, cancer cell biology, cardiovascular science, respiratory biology & lung disease, immunopathology & microbial pathogenesis, and diabetes & obesity.

In addition to scientific research efforts, WVU engages in social research. The Center for Health Ethics and Law is known nationally for its leadership in developing health care practices and policies that strengthen the voices of patients and families in the health care system. The Institute for Health Policy Research improves the quality, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility of the health care delivery system in West Virginia by focusing on developing solutions for the uninsured, and informing government and policy agencies of the health status of children, working adults and seniors in the state.

WVU is actively looking to engage with foundations and corporations committed to improvements in the benefits research brings to patients.
