Women, Youth and Minorities

Faculty and staff of the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center have developed a variety of programs and initiatives specifically designed for women, youth and minorities. Some of these include:

  • Health Sciences and Technology Academy (HSTA)
  • Center for Excellence in Women's Health
  • Scholarships
  • MD/PhD Scholars Program
  • Children's Hospital
  • CARDIAC

Health Sciences and Technology Academy (HSTA)
The Health Sciences and Technology Academy provides science enrichment and mentoring for low-income, minority, rural and first-generation college bound students starting in 9th grade. For more information, please visit www.wv-hsta.org.

Center for Excellence in Women's Health
The Center for Excellence in Women's Health provides comprehensive healthcare for women, promotes research in women's health, and educates and develops future leaders in women's health. For more information, please visit www.wvhealthywomen.org.

Scholarships
As tuition costs continue to increase, the need for scholarship assistance becomes more important. We believe that any student admitted to our program should have the opportunity to attend, regardless of financial circumstances. Scholarship support is a meaningful way to help us recruit great students to WVU.

MD/PhD Scholars Program
The MD/PhD Scholars Program prepares students not only to practice and teach clinical medicine, but also to break new ground through discoveries in research. For more information, please visit www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/resoff/gradprograms/MDPhD.asp.

Children's Hospital
West Virginia University Children's Hospital cares for children and their families from the birth of a child through their teen years. Specialty trained physicians and staff provide the highest quality care to West Virginians and the surrounding region. For more information, please visit www.health.wvu.edu/childrens.

CARDIAC
The CARDIAC Project is a chronic disease risk surveillance and intervention initiative designed to combat the unacceptably high prevalence of heart disease and diabetes in West Virginia. For more information, please visit www.cardiacwv.org.
