The WVU Eye Institute is committed to serving the sub-specialty vision care needs of the people of West Virginia and surrounding states. As West Virginia’s only center that provides all the sub-specialties of ophthalmology, the Eye Institute is competing on a national and international level to retain our present ophthalmologists and recruit new ones. These doctors are trained to practice in very rare medical specialties such as neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric glaucoma and cataracts, and orbital surgery just to name a few.

Donor support is necessary to retain and recruit the best sub-specialty ophthalmologists. Each gift helps us to continue to provide the highest quality of vision care in West Virginia and the region.

You are invited to express your appreciation for the care you have received at the West Virginia University Eye Institute. You can do this by submitting comments of thanks to your doctor, making a gift in honor of your doctor, nurse, or other health professional, or by requesting more information about helping the West Virginia University Eye Institute fulfill its mission to restore vision and prevent blindness. It is critically important that our neighbors in West Virginia, the region and beyond who need eye care receive the best services available so that their eye sight can be treated and/or restored. Emerging Opportunities

It is essential that the WVU Eye Institute be able to quickly respond to unexpected opportunities as they emerge. These emerging opportunities can include the delivery of a new type of vision care treatment;advancing the Eye Institute’s mission in serving the people of West Virginia and the region; obtaining sustainable support for our programs including development; setting a successful course for our future; and having additional resources on hand to pursue new projects that benefit patient care, particularly macular degeneration, vision loss from stroke, and childhood blindness.

Private dollars are needed to support emerging opportunities that inspire and advance the work of the Eye Institute and encourage innovation and success in our delivery of vision care, research, education, and service.

Service to the State

For over 40 years, the WVU Eye Institute has been serving the people of West Virginia and beyond. On an annual basis, the Eye Institute provides over $460,000 worth of high-quality charity vision care to patients from the state and region.

In addition, the Eye Institute’s service to the people of West Virginia includes the delivery of service programs and clinical care to meet the diverse eye care needs of our citizens. Education and Leadership Development

The WVU Eye Institute has a proud tradition of excellence in leadership development, training, and providing continuing education to our residents, fellows, doctors, and ophthalmologists from across the state and region. To assure that this tradition continues, we place a considerable emphasis on ensuring that essential financial resources are available for the education and leadership development of the Eye Institute’s residents, fellows, doctors, and vision care staff. It is critical for the Eye Institute to continue this high quality education and service in order to provide the best vision care and prepare the next generation of highly-trained ophthalmologists.
