Fundraising Priorities

Endowment of Academic Faculty

Obtain Programmatic Endowments in all disciplines: Behavioral Medicine, Dentistry, Family Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, and Surgery which will help to provide resources for the Departmental Chairs. Endowments for Departmental Chairs and Professorships in all disciplines definitely assist our retention of faculty by supporting their efforts to educate caring health professionals as well as providing health care services in our community.

Facility Development

Continue to gain support from friends and alumni to upgrade our educational classrooms, library and the auditoriums environmental ambiance, technology and the safety features of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center for the public and professional education: Such effort would also include the advancement of our performance based lab/simulation center for the training of medical professionals, and students.

The Geriatric Initiatives

This new program involves clinical and educational services and requires new facility space. The Geriatric Initiative will greatly improve the quality and availability of services to the senior citizens. Funds raised will help support various disciplines of medical professionals dedicated to the care of the elderly.

Pediatric Support

The primary care of children is burdened with reduced reimbursement from Medicaid, government funding, and insurance payors. WVU serves all of WV with the vast majority being underserved children. Outside support is critical in this area to sustain and strengthen our existing programs in advancing care for the infants/children of WV. Examples of our dedicated programs needing ongoing support:

  • Childhood obesity
  • Abuse
  • Children’s Oncology Unit
  • Diabetes

Faculty Focus

To increase academic research achievement and patient services, support for faculty continuing education and resources is important. Faculty commitment to the institution through the internal campus campaign directly impacts the institution and the community.

Student Enrichment

Develop scholarships for the opportunity to train in outside areas for students such as an opportunity to train in highly specialized medical areas (oncology, geriatrics, pediatrics subspecialty hospitals). Provide students with resources to perform at alternative training sites: (rural, home town, urban).
