The West Virginia University Charleston Division Campus serves as the nation’s oldest regional medical educational campus. We are dedicated to educating caring health care professionals, providing research and offering services to improve the health care of West Virginia citizens.
The Health Sciences Center in Charleston houses divisions of the West Virginia University Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, and CAMC Nurse Anesthesia. The Charleston Division School of Medicine includes the departments of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The Division houses the states second largest Health Sciences Libraries, the Central AHEC Office of West Virginia, The Poison Center of West Virginia, and one of the oldest CRNA programs in the country.
Some 100 faculty and 400 clinical faculty provide training and educational oversight to both medical student clerkships and to the CAMC residency program. Each year more than 60 medical students and 140 residents choose to come to this program as well as the other disciplines in health care. Through our partnership with CAMC as its teaching hospital, WVU Charleston educates over 500 students, researches over 500 areas, hospitalizes over 40,000 patients, and treats over 200,000 outpatients, and our services reach over 25 counties on any given day.
