The WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Eastern Division was established in 2001 for the purpose of improving the quality of and access to health care for West Virginia residents. This is accomplished though medical education and direct and supportive health care services. The Division’s clinical faculty provides one-on-one training in community settings. This highly personalized approach to medical education not only teaches students important professional skills, it also helps them better understand the people they will ultimately serve.
The Eastern Division provides community-based education in the health sciences to third- and fourth-year medical students in the nine-county, Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia — Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, Mineral, Hardy, Grant, Pendleton, and Tucker counties. Through our partnership with the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine, medical students and residents receive the opportunity to receive a broad-based medical education emphasizing Family Medicine, Primary Care, and Rural Health.
