Lauren M. Armistead, MD Scholarship Fund

A scholarship fund has been established in memory of Lauren Armistead, a 2005 graduate of the WVU School of Medicine. Dr. Armistead, a surgery resident at Charleston Area Medical Center, died, along with her father Ray Armistead, mother Patricia Prescott Armistead, and sister Kristen, in a private plane crash near Charleston, SC on December 22.

As a child, we are told, Lauren loved to make rounds with her dad, who was an orthopedic surgeon in North Carolina. As an adult she loved to attend concerts, dance, ski, canoe, and travel. Lauren, 27, was traveling in Europe when she found out she was accepted at the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

At her medical school graduation in May, 2005, Lauren was hooded by her father and stood proudly between him and her Uncle John Prescott, the newly-appointed Dean of the WVU School of Medicine. Those who knew her best say she loved medicine and would have made a wonderful surgeon.

Contributions to the Lauren M. Armistead, MD Scholarship Fund may be made online. Checks should be made payable to the WVU Foundation and mailed to the WVU Foundation, PO Box 1650, Morgantown, WV 26507. Kindly note the scholarship name and fund number (Fund #3Z174) on the memo line. For more information, contact the WVU School of Medicine Office of Development at 877-766-4438.
