Strategic Interdisciplinary Research
The University has established six interdisciplinary biomedical research centers directly related to prevalent health conditions in West Virginia. Progress in these centers will benefit patients diagnosed with diseases such as stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's.
Gifts to the School of Medicine support groudbreaking research by WVU investigators in cancer cell biology, neuroscience, cardiovascular sciences, immunopathology & microbial pathogenesis, repiratory biology & lung disease, and diabetes & obesity. They also provide start-up funding to recruit the outstanding junior and senior scientists and clinicians needed to complete their research teams. Funds are also needed to outfit new research laboratories and to renovate old ones so the pace of discovery can be accelerated and shared.
