KC is the Chair of the WVU Department of Family Medicine – Eastern Division and has called the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia his home since 1982. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and in Medical Management, holds CAQs in Geriatrics and in Sports Medicine, and completed a fellowship at the National Institute for Program Director Development. After completing medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine and residency at WVU Hospital in Morgantown, Dr Nau served his National Health Corps commitment by establishing a clinic in Harpers Ferry. He enjoys the full breadth of clinical family medicine and is especially interested in care of the elderly, exercise stress testing, and obstetrics.
He has a passion for the potential of excellence, service, and education in rural family medicine. KC served as the Residency Program Director for the first 10 years of the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program and became the Dept of Family Medicine-Eastern Division’s first Chair in 2004. He has developed and nationally presented innovative rural community medicine, Resident-as-Teacher and Rural Physician Leadership curriculums, and 360 Degree resident evaluation tools. Research interests include geriatric delirium, sport concussion, and assessing longitudinal medical education. He is the founder and managing editor of the AGES (Advanced Geriatric Educator Skills) Program and the state’s first Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program Director.
Dr Nau has been awarded the governor’s Distinguished West Virginian Award, the residency program Preceptor of the Year Award, and the Dean’s Community Service Award. KC is a reformed Hawaiian Ironman Triathalon finisher who now enjoys fishing ,a nice walk-jog or good mountain bike ride. The role of screaming MLS soccer fan and part-time high school sideline physician, have replaced his days as a soccer coach. He and his wife Peggy live in Shepherdstown, WV and have a daughter, two sons, and a couple of dogs.
