Johanna was born in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated from Elkins High School in Elkins, West Virginia. She is a 2005 graduate of West Virginia University School of Medicine and in 2001 earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology also from WVU. While a Mountaineer and an Elkins Tiger she spent much of her free time running Cross Country and Track. Johanna’s husband, Scott teaches World History at Jefferson High School and coaches Track and Cross Country for the Cougars. Layla Biola, a Jack Russell mix, is a one year old addition to the Biola household. Johanna chose Family Medicine because she felt it would give her the best opportunity to help prevent chronic disease through the promotion of community health, physical activity, and nutrition. Johanna also likes to travel, but the destinations do not have to be exotic. Her favorite trips of all are those through the mountains of West Virginia that usually take her home to Elkins for a weekend of fishing and running in the Monongahela National Forest.
