Do you only take care of pregnant women? No, although delivering babies is a very important and enjoyable part of what we do, we also provide full scope women's health services including:
Your chosen physician Dr. David Baltierra or midwife, Linda Keeling, will follow your care throughout your pregnancy and is committed to being present for the birth of your child. As a collaborative practice, we share in the care of our patients. If for some reason one of us is out of town or unavailable, we cover for each other. We also work with resident physicians from WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program at Harpers Ferry, but your care is always under the direct supervision of your physician or midwife. Your doctor or midwife has full admitting privileges at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Childbirth occurs in a warm and comfortable family-centered environment. Partners and family members are encouraged to support and share the birth experience throughout their their stay. To provide a safe environment, support in labor is limited to two people chosen by the mother-to-be. We are able to offer a variety of modalities to make the birth experience comfortable and satisfying for the entire family. Jefferson Memorial Hospital serves a rural county of about 45,000 people. Patients from WVU Maternity & Women's Health Center are admitted to this 114-bed hospital. Services include a 24-hour level III emergency department, a 6-bed intensive care unit, tele-radiology, an obstetrics unit, surgical services, and rehabilitation services. The hospital uses electronic medical records and is currently working towards electronic physician order entry. Primary care physicians provide basic support, with excellent sub-specialist backup in surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ENT, and orthopedics. We would love to see you before you get pregnant. This gives you an opportunity to get to know us and receive information about what you can do to have a health pregnancy. It is also very important that you take prenatal vitamins with folic acid before you are pregnant, because folic acid has been shown to reduce certain kinds of birth defects.
