Assistant Professor,
Pediatrics
Dr. Eleanor “Ellie” Smith is a pediatrician who joined the faculty in August 2010. She Graduated from West Virginia Medical School in 2007, and completed a residency training program with the Department of Pediatrics at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV in 2010. She is happy to return to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, where she was a medical student during her third year of training.
Dr. Smith was an “Army brat”, living in Germany, Texas, New York, and Massachusetts before coming to West Virginia for medical school. She loves the mountains and the people, and feels like this is home. She is excited to join the faculty of WVU in the Eastern division. She enjoys teaching and learning, and loves the practice of Pediatrics. She was best known in her residency program for her laugh, her mentoring, and dedication to her patients.
Dr. Smith has completed research in areas of breastfeeding in at-risk populations, and a multicenter study of West Virginia pediatric inflicted head trauma. She hopes to continue to focus on her interests in medical training, global health, and at-risk pediatric populations. She also plans to continue to paint, sing, get in shape, and is thrilled that Harpers Ferry is the official home of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
