FINANCIAL AID CALENDAR

JANUARY

Apply for financial aid for the next academic year. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  If you filed for the previous academic year and you have a PIN (personal identification number) you can complete the renewal FAFSA on-line.  To find out your PIN go to www.pin.ed.gov.  Anyone who did not complete a FAFSA last year can file an original FAFSA.  Apply for both on-line here: Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Paper FAFSA's are also available at the Financial Aid Office or from your high school guidance counselor.  Note:  You cannot complete the application prior to January 1st of the academc year for which you are applying.  Paper applications are mailed to the Federal Processor and generally take 6 to 8 weeks to process.  Processing time for electronic filing (on-line) is generally 15 - 30 days.

FEBRUARY

Entering freshman interested in the scholarships offered through West Virginia University's Scholars Program must apply for and complete the admission process by February 1.

MARCH

The FAFSA  must be received by the Federal Processor by March 1 for maximum consideration of financial aid. Maximum consideration includes campus based aid, Federal Pell Grants and Federal Direct Loans. Any applications received after March 1 will be considered for Federal Pell Grants and Direct Loans only.

Campus based aid programs include Federal Work Study, Federal Perkins Loan and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG). Campus based aid programs and Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students only. However, graduate students interested in Federal Work Study may apply for such funding by submitting a written request to the Financial Aid Office.

APRIL

Begin notification of academic year financial aid awards to students. Aid notification will continue on a weekly basis as FAFSA information is received. 

Exit Interviews for graduating students from the Health Sciences majors will be available online.

First summer term awards are processed and award notices are sent.

MAY

Direct Loan promissory notes are available on the web for electronic signature at http://dlenote.ed.gov  (generally late May). Note: Awards must be accepted before promissory notes can be signed.

 Disbursement of first summer term aid (generally mid to late May).

West Virginia Higher Education Grants recipients are notified by State Colleges & University Systems of West Virginia.  Note:  Health science majors receive less than the amount listed on the notification you will receive from the State College & University Systems of WV.

JUNE

Second summer term awards are processed and award notices are mailed.

JULY

Disbursement of second summer term financial aid.

Billing invoices are mailed to students for the fall term from the Office of Student Accounts.
 

AUGUST

Aid disbursement for the fall term. Refund checks for living expenses are mailed to the local address listed with Admissions and Records. Please update address with Admissions and Records at (304) 293-2124 or online at  http://star.wvu.edu by August 1st.

Federal Work Study recipients pick up work study assignments from the Main Financial Aid Office located on the 2nd floor of the Mountainlair (Student Union). Any awards not claimed in the first 21 days of classes will be canceled.

Debt management sessions provided

NOVEMBER

Exit interviews for fall graduates are available online.

DECEMBER

Billing invoices are mailed to students for the spring term from the Office of Student Accounts.

JANUARY

Disbursement of spring financial aid.

Begin financial aid application process for next year.
