The Academy makes this scholarship
available to dental students who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints (Mormon/LDS) only, regardless of where they completed

ADEA/JOHNSON & JOHNSON HEALTHCARE PRODUCTS PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY SCHOLARSHIPS
The American Association of Dental Schools and Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products sponsors
this scholarship to support academic excellence in preventive dentistry.
An award of $2,500 each is granted to 12 dental students. Candidates
must submit the following materials: 1) a completed application; 2) a letter
of recommendation from the dean that includes a statement describing both
the student's academic record and achievements in preventive dentistry;
and 3) a two-page statement prepared by the student describing activities
and achievements beyond those required of all enrolled students for graduation
in research, community service, or program development as they relate to

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (AFHPSP)
If you are in dental school, the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program can provide tuition assistance for up to four years. Two and three year scholarships are also available. This includes all required fees, expenses, books, and equipment. Also included is a monthly allowance of at least $1,319. AMERICAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION
(ADA) DENTAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
The American Dental Association
awards scholarships to qualified second year students who demonstrate financial
need and academic achievement. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required for
consideration along with DAT scores, three letters of reference and a typed
statement summarizing personal and professional goals. Questions
about this program may be directed to the ADA Endowment and Assistance
Funds, (312) 440-2567. Applications are generally available in February
or March and there is a June 1 application deadline. Must file FAFSA
by March 1.
AMERICAN FUND FOR DENTAL
HEALTH (AFDH) MINORITY DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP
American Dental Association
awards scholarships annually to second year minority students. Scholarships
awards are based on a student's academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0
scale) Application deadline is July 31. Qualified applicant
is chosen by the School of Dentistry.
AMERICAN ACADEMY OF IMPLANT
DENTISTRY (AAID)
Each year AAID awards four
grants nationwide to dental students/dental residents worth $2000 each
plus a $500 travel stipend. Grant funds are intended to provide dental
students/residents with the opportunity to be exposed to research related
to implant dentistry. Students are required to make either an oral
presentation, a poster presentation, or a table clinic presentation to

ARMED FORCES HEALTH PROFESSIONS
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (AFHPSP)
If you are in dental school, the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program can provide tuition assistance for up to four years. Two and three year scholarships are also available. MEMORIAL BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
This endowment shall provide
funds for the purchase of textbooks for a third or fourth year dental student
in good standing at the WVU School of Dentistry. Recipients shall
demonstrate outstanding ability in dental anatomy, both lecture and laboratory. Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.
DR. PHILLIP FARLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/CLASS OF 1970
This scholarship provides for students enrolled in the School of Dentistry as a resident or non-resident of West Virginia. Recipients shall demonstrate financial need and be in good academic standing. A student who is a recipient one year is eligible for consideration in any other year.
PIERRE FAUCHARD SCHOLARSHIP
The Pierre Fauchard Academy,
an International Honor Dental Organization, offers a scholarship annually
to a deserving student in each Dental School. Students will be selected
on the basis of demonstrated leadership. Financial need will also

GHAREEB DENTAL GROUP SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships for students enrolled at West virginia University in the School of Dentistry. Students must be full-time status and entering the fourth year of the Doctorate of Dental Surgery program to receive this award. Student recipients must indicate an interest in pursuing general dentistry. Recipients shall be in good academic standing as defined by WVU and demonstrate financial need. The donors may provide recommendations for student recipients to the WVU School of Dentistry Scholarship Committee. Recipients shall be determined by the appropriate officials in the School of Dentistry in consultation with the WVU Office of Financial Aid. Funds shall be awarded in the name of the Ghareeb Dental Group School of Dentistry Scholarship.
JOHN W. HATCHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is provided for student enrolled in the School of Dentistry. First consideration shall be given to students who are from one of the following counties in West Virginia: Fayette, Raleigh, Boone, Logan, Wyoming, McDowell, or Mingo. If no student meets that criteria, preference will be given to a student who is a resident of West Virginia. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and shall be determined by the School of Dentistry and the Office of Financial Aid.
HINMAN SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship funded by the Hinman Dental Society of Atlanta. Typically awards two scholarships at $2000 each per year to deserving students who show financial need. Must file the FAFSA by March 1.

JAPANESE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA, INC.
Scholarships being offered to medical professionals who are of Japanese ancestry. Awards will vary depending on the donor and will be presented to qualified students based on demonstration of academic excellence; who show a strong interest in the JMSA and achieving its goals; and who propose a clear, achievable project that will benefit the JMSA and the Japanese community as determined by the scholarship committee of the program. KANAWHA VALLEY DENTAL SOCIETY
Provides a scholarship for students enrolled at West Virginia University in the School of Dentistry. Students must be full-time status and entering the fourth year of the Doctorate of Dental Surgery Program to receive this award. First preference shall be for West Virginia residents of Kanawha County. Second preference shall be for students who plan to reside and practice dentistry in Kanawha County. HOWARD G. LAPSLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR MEDICAL EDUCATION Scholarships are awarded yearly by the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center Board of Directors to provide financial aid to one or more deserving candidates enrolled in a degreed program in medicine, osteopathy or dentistry. DR. MATTHEW MATHIAS SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY SCHOLARSHIP
Provides scholarships for students enrolled at WVU in the School of Dentistry. Students must be full-time and entering the fourth year of the Doctorate of Dental Surgery program to receive this award. Student recipients must display extraordinary care for patients and demonstrate a strong service orientation to the field of dentistry. They shall also demonstrate good academic standing by maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 and financial need.
NAVY HEALTH SERVICES COLLEGIATE PROGRAM (HSCP)
-Pays you a monthly salary and benefits for the enlisted rank of E-6 while enrolled in dental school for up to 4 years (this includes medical and dental benefits). E-6 pay with allowances is approximately $2,737 monthly but will vary based on where you are going to school and reside.
-You are eligible for a pay raise to E-7 ($3,115) for referring another classmate to join any Navy officer program or make Dean's List for one semester/2 quarters and an annual raise every January.
-Upon graduating from Dental School you will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (O3) and work as an active duty Navy Dentist in an established practice for 3 to 4 years depending upon the length of time you are in the program.
-You also have the opportunity to apply for a General Practice Residency (GPR), Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), or a Residency. All of these great opportunities are available within your first year of active duty service. They are offered through various Navy Dental Clinics across the country and you will receive full pay and benefits while attending these training programs.

This scholarship provides for students enrolled at WVU in the School of Dentistry Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) program. Recipients must demonstrate financial need as determined by the School of Dentistry in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid. OKEY PATTERSON LPEF SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is annually provided to one student enrolled in a health sciences program. It rotates between Dentisry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. Selection criteria includes in-state residency and financial need. Must file the FAFSA. No application is necessary.
RALPH (BUCK) RUTLEDGE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship provides for students enrolled at WVU in the School of Dentistry. Recipients shall have demonstrated academic promise and financial need. A student who is a recipient one-year is eligible for consideration in any succeeding year. Recipients shall be determined by the School of Dentistry in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid. SMOOT MEMORIAL BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship provides funds
for the purchase of textbooks or other educational materials for dental
students who are from under-represented minority or economically disadvantaged
backgrounds. African American students shall be given first preference.
Second and third consideration shall be given to other under-represented
minority students and individuals from economically disadvantaged groups.

WEST VIRGINIA INSTITUTE FOR COMMUNITY & RURAL HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP
Available to fourth year dental student who intend on practicing in WV. Recipients must sign a contract agreeing to practice full-time (32-40 hr/week) for a minimum of one year at an eligible site. Recipients must locate a practice site and agree to provide oral health services to WV Medicaid and CHIP recipients. The penalty for not fulfilling the service obligation is repayment of the scholarship with interest. Application must be postmarked by January 31st. Awards will be made in April. WEST VIRGINIA RURAL PRIMARY
CARE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Program is funded by the
Bureau of Primary Care, Department of Health & Human Services.
Administered locally by the WVU Office of Rural Health to provide stipends
to medical, dental, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, physician assistant
or clinical psychology students for the time spent in rural areas completing
clinical rotations. Dental students must have completed one month
at a rural site. All students must have completed one year of training
in a certified program. Students must apply and be recommended by
one of the WV Rural Health Education Partnership Consortium sites.

WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
DENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Eight scholarships are available;
two per class. Scholarships provide for the payment of tuition and
most fees. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in or admitted to
the School of Dentistry and must rank above the fiftieth percentile in
their class. In the case of entering students, distinct professional
promise as indicated by performance on the Dental Admissions Test is also
used as a criterion for selection. Scholarships are awarded annually
using information (application, transcripts, Dental Admission Test Scores,
etc.) on file with the WVU Office of Admissions and Records on or before
May 15 of each year. Continuation beyond the first academic year
is dependent upon academic performance. WV residents receive priority
consideration in the selection process. Selection is made by the
School of Dentistry.
GERALDINE CORE WILLIS
SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is awarded annually
to a WV resident and graduate of a WV high school. A minimum 3.0
GPA and demonstrated financial need is required. Must file the FAFSA

DENNIS "PJ" ZICKEFOOSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipient must be enrolled in the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) program; shall be a third or fourth year student; be in good academic and professional standing as defined by School of Dentistry; demonstrates financial need; and must excel in compassionate patient care. Recipient must be full-time status. Recipients receiving the award one year are eligible for consideration in any other subsequent year, not to exceed two years, provided they continue to meet the selection criteria. Recipients are determined by the School of Dentistry in conjunction with the Financial Aid Office. Must file the FAFSA by March 1.
LOAN OPPORTUNITY
HEALTH PROFESSIONS DENTAL
LOAN
The Health Professions Dental
Loan Program, which is a source of financial assistance through the federal
government, provides loan funds to participating institutions, such as
West Virginia University. These loans are restricted to students
who 1) are citizens or nationals of the United States; 2) are enrolled
or accepted for enrollment as at least half time students; and 3) demonstrate
financial need through filing the FAFSA. The interest rate is 5%
simple interest and loans are repayable to the school over a ten year period
beginning twelve months after completion of studies. Parental information
is required, regardless of dependency status. Must complete
the FAFSA, including parental information by March 1.
LOANS FOR DISADVANTAGED
DENTAL STUDENTS (LDS)
Loans for Disadvantaged Students
are available to students who meet the federal definition of "disadvantaged".
The maximum annual award is the cost of attendance (subject to fund availability).
The interest rate is 5% simple interest. Not interest accrues during
the in school period and the 12 month grace period following graduation.
Parental information is required, regardless of dependency status. Must complete the FAFSA, including parental information by March 1.
CONNECTICUT STATE DENTAL
FOUNDATION

No-interest loan for dental
students from Connecticut regardless of where they are enrolled in dental

GIBSON FOUNDATION LOANS
The Gibson Foundation makes
about 200 low-interest (2-5%) loans each year to residents of Western PA
who have completed at least one full-time year at the college or university
from which the BA, BS or graduate degree will be earned. Applicants
must be in good academic standing (2.3 GPA or higher), and their existing
educational debt must be within the parameters established by the Gibson

THE NORMAN W. SMITH EDUCATIONAL
LOAN TRUST
The purpose of the "Norman
W. Smith Educational Loan Trust" is to provide loans to students of Berkely
County, WV who are pursuing a minimum of a B.S. degree in the field of
ministry or medicine (including nursing, pharmacy and dentistry).
While priority will be given to Berkeley County, Morgan and Jefferson Counties
can also be considered if resources permit. Loans are awarded on a semester
basis by a selection committee consisting of four residents of Berkely
County. Members are from the Berkeley County Medical Society, Berkeley
County Board of Education, Berkeley County Ministerial Assoc. and Shepherd
College. Completed applications must be received for the fall semester
by April 15th and the spring semester by September 15th. Applications
may be obtained by calling the Trust Department of Huntington National Bank (304) 348-4582.
