ENTRANCE COUNSELING
All students who wish to
borrow through Federal Student Loan Programs are required to complete the
entrance counseling process. This process is required to ensure
that student loan borrowers understand the responsibility and obligation
they are assuming by borrowing student loans.
Should you fail to complete
the entrance counseling process, your federal student loan will not be
disbursed.
Federal Perkins Loan borrowers
will be contacted by the Student Loan Office at West Virginia University
regarding entrance counseling for the Perkins loan.
Student's borrowing through
the William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loan program may complete their
entrance counseling requirement for the Direct Subsidized Loan and/or the
Direct Unsubsidized Loan on-line. You may choose to fulfill this
requirement by attending an Entrance Counseling Session conducted by the
West Virginia University Financial Aid Office.
To satisfy your Direct Loan
entrance counseling requirement, complete the Direct
Loan Entrance Counseling process on-line. The requirement
must be personally completed by the student. Upon
successful completion the 15 question quiz, please remember to print
the Rights
and Responsibilities Checklist, check each
of the boxes on the list, sign and date the form, and then return it to
the West Virginia University Financial Aid Office. You
will have 3 opportunities to successfully complete the quiz. If
you are unable to complete the on-line quiz, you must complete the entrance
counseling requirement through our office.

EXIT COUNSELING
Exit counseling is required
for all student loan borrowers who are graduating or not returning to the
University. Exit counseling is conducted to inform students of their
rights and responsibilities regarding student loans, to review their payment
options and assist with debt management counseling. Students are
notified in writing if they are required to have exit counseling.
If you do not complete exit
counseling before departing WVU, a hold will be placed on all of your records
at WVU until the requirement is satisfied.
You may satisfy your Direct
Loan exit counseling requirement by completing the Direct
Loan Exit Counseling process on-line. The requirement must be
personally
completed by the student.
Follow these steps to successfully
complete your exit counseling requirement:
1. Click on the link
above for direct loan exit counseling.
2. Select "Account
Information" from the menu at the top left side of the page.
3. Select the option
to use your PIN (Personal Identification Number).
You must select this option
in order to access the "Exit Counseling"
area of the web site.
If you do not have a PIN, you may wish to request that one be mailed to
you. Instructions and links for requesting a PIN
are provided on the Direct
Loan Servicer's web site.
4. Once you have entered
your personal information and PIN, current
information on all of your
Direct Loans will be displayed in the main
window of your web browser.
You should then select the "Exit
Counseling" option from
the menu on the left side of the page.
5. The exit counseling
session will open in the main window of your web browser. Follow
the instructions and read all pages carefully. You will be required
to complete a quiz at the end of the counseling session. You must
complete the quiz with 100% accuracy.
6. Upon
successful completion of the quiz, please remember to
confirm
your mailing address, print the Borrower Information
Sheet
and the Rights and Responsibilities Checklist. You must
enter WVU's school code
number in order to print the required
documents. Our school
code is: 003827. Complete the forms,
sign
and
date them, and then return them to the West Virginia University
Financial
Aid Office. You will have 3 opportunities to successfully
complete the quiz.
If you are unable to complete the on-line quiz,
you must complete the
exit counseling requirement through our office.
