FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)

    West Virginia University
    Federal School Code is
    003827
Each year, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be processed for financial aid.  The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov in January. Students should obtain a Federal Student Aid Department of Education PIN (personal identification number) by requesting one at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN is used to electronically sign the FAFSA. If you prefer the paper process, you will have to obtain a paper copy of the FAFSA in January by calling the Department of Education at (1-800-433-3243) and request one be sent to you by mail.

It is important you read the instructions before completing your FAFSA because the instructions will answer most of your questions.  If, after reading the instructions, you need help completing the FAFSA, there are several places you can contact to receive assistance.  You can call 1-800-4-FED-Aid (1-800-433-3243), consult your high school guidance counselor, or contact the Financial Aid Office at (304) 293-3706.

You do not have to wait until you/your parent's federal tax returns are completed to fill out the FAFSA.  You may provide your best estimate of what will appear on the tax returns.  After the official tax returns have been completed, you can review the data and make any necessary corrections with the Federal Processor.
