THE BAYER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Grants are available for
clinical, basic science, and economic (cost-effectiveness) aspects of transfusion
and blood conservation. Two $25,000 grants are available for new
proposals, and $30,000 is available for grant extensions to previous recipients.
Applicants must be residents, fellows, or junior faculty in US institutions
who have been in academic staff positions for no longer than 4 years.

EMERSON D. FARLEY, JR.
M.D. RESIDENT SCHOLARSHIP
This endowment shall provide
scholarship awards above and beyond the provided stipend for residents
who are completing their training in Rural Medicine. Recipients shall
have demonstrated clinical excellence, commitment to rural practice and
financial need. Selected students should intend to practice in underserved
areas of WV and be citizens of the US as allowed by law. First consideration
should be given to students who have been awarded the "West Virginia Rural
Health Partnership" scholarship during their fourth year in the WVU School
of Medicine. A student who is a recipient in one year is eligible

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
West Virginia financial incentives
target primary care disciplines and rural practices, and include scholarships,
loan repayment, loan forgiveness and fellowships. Eligibility requirements,
benefits, obligations and application procedures vary, but they all offer
students, residents and practicing primary care providers a unique opportunity
to experience the challenges and rewards of rural practice in WV.

NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE
CORPS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM RURAL HOSPTIAL RESIDENCY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Eighteen rural hospitals
in West Virginia currently offer scholarships to physicians in residency
training in exchange for a commitment to practice in the community served
by the hospital upon completion of training. Generally, scholarships
of $10,000 per year are offered for each year of practice in the community.
If the service obligation is not met, the physician must repay the scholarship

AMSA-SENIOR MEDICAL STUDENT
PERSONAL LOAN PROGRAM
The American Medical Association
will lend a senior medical student $5000, $6500 or $8000 to help members
during their transition to residency programs. For information and/or

This loan program is sponsored
by the American Professional Assocation of Residents and Interns and is
available to senior medical students, residents, interns and physicians
entering or establishing a practice. Interest rate is variable and

RIDINGS RESOURCE GROUP,
INC.
This group provides funding
for interns and residents as well as established physicians. No collateral
is required and loans range from $5000 to $60,000. The borrower has
up to 6 years to repay. Applications and/or additional information

USPFG
United States Professional
Financial Group provides a loan program for senior medical students with
no security required. 15.95% simple interest will be charged on your
principal balance. Applications may be requested by calling 1-800-333-9183.
RESIDENCY TRAINING LOANS
OF THE SOUTHERN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION
Loan funds are available
to allow a physician to complete a chosen number of years of training or
in order to apply for additional special education. The maximum loan
available is $2400. The interest rate charged shall be 7% or the
current interest rate charged for FHA Loans, whichever is less. Official

UNSECURED LOAN PROGRAM
This is an alternative loan
program offered to medical, dental and osteopathic students as well as

OTHER LOAN OPPORTUNITIES
There are several commercial
or privately financed loans for 4th year medical students who need funds
for relocation or travel expenses. Amounts and interest rates vary
