SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

AIR FORCE ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS
The Air Force ROTC Nursing Scholarship program is designed to encourage students to earn an Air Force Officer Commission through Air Force ROTC and acquire an undergraduate degree in nursing.  Air Force ROTC Nursing Scholarships provide for the payment of tuition, fees, books and incidental costs and a $150 monthly living allowance during the academic year.  Students must successfully complete the Air Force Officer qualifying test, an Air Force medical examination and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA for all college work.  Upon completion of the nursing degree, students must serve on active duty in the USAF Nurse Corps for a period of four years.  For further information, contact Captain Greg Evans, PO Box 6251, Morgantown, WV  26506 or call (304) 293-5421.

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION - MADELINE PICKETT HALBERT COGSWELL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
A one time $500 Scholarship for students who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, who are members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), descendants of members of the NSDAR or are eligible to be members of NSDAR, be established. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must included with the application. DAR Member Number must be on the application. Deadline: February 15 or August 15. Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope to obtain the name and address of your state scholarship chairman and an application. Address your request to: Committee Services Office, Attn: Scholarships, 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006-5303. All requests must be done by return mail. Any scholarship requests received without the self-addressed, stampled envelope will be discarded.

A one time $500 Scholarship for students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must be enclosed with the application. Preference will be given to candidates from the Lowell, MA area. Deadline: February 15 or August 15. Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope to obtain the name and address of your state scholarship chairman and an application. Any scholarship requests received without the self-addressed, stampled envelope will be discarded.

IMOGENE PEER FOSTER NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is awarded to nursing students who demonstrate academic promise and financial need. First preference will be given to WV residents residing in Hardy County. Student must file FAFSA.

JAPANESE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA, INC
Scholarship being offered to medical, nursing and dental students who are of Japanese ancestry.  Awards of $1500 to $2500 each will be presented to qualified students based on evaluation of individual merit and need determined by the scholarship committee of the program.  Applications can be downloaded at jmsa.org/scholarship application forms.html.

MORGAN-ROBERTSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is awarded to a rising Jr. who has the highest cumulative grade point average on 61 or more graded hours. Award amounts vary, but in most cases will at least equal tuition and fees. The School of Nursing will identify the eligible candidate. No application is necessary.

NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awards ranging from $1000-$2500 yearly are offered by the National Student Nurses Association.  Selection of recipients is made in March of each year.  Additional information and applications are available by writing to the Foundation of NSNA, 555 West 57th Street, Suite 1327, New York, NY  10019. 

REAR ADMIRAL JOAN M. ENGEL BACCALAUREATE DEGREE IN NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship of $1000 is offered through the Washington Metropolitan Area Navy Nurse Corps Association (WMANNCA) and is warded to an undergraduate nursing student with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the WMANNCA Scholarship Committee. Applications are available in the School of Nursing. Deadline to submit application is April 1.

NAVY NURSE CANDIDATE PROGRAM (NCP)
This scholarship provides a stipend for full-time students in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Students can apply in their sophomore year. They will receive $10,000 in two installments, plus $1,000 monthly for up to 24 months (their Junior and Senior years). After graduation, they will be commissioned as officers in the United States Navy and will serve as nurses in either a stateside or overseas Navy Hospital. JUNE SATTERFIELD SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships awarded to first year (freshman) undergraduate nursing students who: 1) are WV residents; 2) who show academic ability as demonstrated by grade point average; and 3) demonstrate financial need. Must file the FAFSA. For more information contact the School of Nursing at (304) 293-1386.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DISADVANTAGED NURSING STUDENTS
A federal scholarship program for students considered disadvantaged either by reason of family income or environment.  Students must be U.S. citizens and enrolled full time.   Amounts are variable and based on financial need.  Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.  Parent information is required, regardless of dependency status. 

SENIOR COSTEP PROGRAM
Program offered by the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) to assist nursing students in return for an agreement to work for the PHS after graduation.  As an active PHS Officer during the senior year, students will receive pay and allowances of approximately $2300 per month.  In return, the students agree to work for the PHS for twice the time sponsored.  Interested students should call (301) 594-2919.  December 31 is the application deadline for the following academic year.  Students must be registered full time. 

FRANK FRANKENBERGER FUND
Fund used for nursing students who have an emergency need that impairs their ability to graduate.  Preference given to seniors. Must file the FAFSA.

GRETA B. STEVENS SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students at the Charleston division.  The Charleston Area Medical Center School of Nursing will make the selection. Must file the FAFSA by March 1.

VETERANS ADMINISTRATION SCHOLARSHIP
Eligible applicants may receive payment of tuition and fees, other education expenses and a monthly stipend of approximately $875 in exchange for service in a VA facility following graduation.  Minimum two year obligation is required.  Interested students write to: Health Professional Scholarship Programs, (143B) Veterans Affairs, 810 Vermont Avenue, NW, Washington,  DC  20420. 

WEST VIRGINIA LEAGUE FOR NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

WVNA VANCE SCHOLARSHIP
The West Virginia Nurses Association (WVNA) annually offers scholarships of up to $1000 to assist eligible nursing students at West Virginia University.  To be eligible, students must either be juniors or seniors, current members of WVNA or WVSNA,  exhibit financial need and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.  Students should apply at the Financial Aid Office in February.  A grade transcript, two faculty references and a self evaluation form are also required.  WVU may recommend up to six candidates for these awards.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.

MARY H. ARBUCKLE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students.  Students meeting the following requirements will be considered:  1) demonstrate financial need; 2) have a minimum 3.0 GPA; and 3) a U.S. citizen. 

PHYLLIS CHRISTINE GANZO CODY NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who demonstrate financial need and show high academic promise as determined by the WVU School of Nursing. 

EDNA NESTOR CONDRY NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and financial need. 

PHYLLIS CHRISTINE GANZO CODY NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who demonstrate financial need and show high academic promise as determined by the WVU School of Nursing. 

SUZANNE WELLER GROSS BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship shall be used for the purchase of textbooks for undergraduate nursing students.  Recipient shall demonstrate high academic achievement as determined by the WVU School of Nursing.

MARTHA HAWKINS NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Funds will be used for scholarships in the School of Nursing.

BUTCH & LESA HIGGINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who demonstrate financial need and show high academic promise as determined by the WVU School of Nursing. 

BRETT SAMUEL JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is available to undergraduate Nursing students who are 1) WV residents, 2) demonstrate financial need, 3) show academic promise and; 4) are residents of Tucker or Wood Counties. Students who are recipients of the West Virginia Promise Scholarship or successor programs are not eligible for this award. A FAFSA and School of Nursing Scholarship application is required.

JENNY JONES MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Provides scholarships for WV residents who are students enrolled at the undergraduate level of the WVU School of Nursing.  Recipients shall demonstrate financial need.

HAZEL A. JOHNSON NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester.  Students meeting the following requirements will be considered:  1)  a high school graduate; 2) WV resident; 3)  demonstrate financial need; 4) maintain a 2.5 GPA; and 5) achieve academic excellence. 

THELMA BERNADINE KINNEY NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 1988 to assist a needy and deserving student in the School of Nursing. 

MCKINNEY-SHAW NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who show high academic promise and financial need. 

BARBARA ANN NEAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship recipients shall be regularly enrolled students in the WVU School of Nursing.  Preference will be given to RN-BSN and RN-MSN students.  Recipients shall demonstrate high academic promise as determined by appropriate officials of the WVU School of Nursing.

MARGARET FAE PERRY SCHOLARSHIP
Funds shall be used for scholarships in the School of Nursing.

GEARLEAN MARIE SLACK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who show high academic promise and are natives of WV. 

IDA W. SMITH MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to undergraduate nursing students who show high academic promise, financial need, and are natives of WV.

DR. REZIN D. STOUT SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to nursing students who are graduates of high schools in Barbour and Taylor counties of WV. 

WEST VIRGINIA NURSES ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
A Scholarship in the amount of $1000 is provided to a West Virginia resident who has the highest grade point average and the greatest need. 

GERALDINE CORE WILLIS SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to nursing students who meet the following requirements:  1)  resident of WV; 2)  graduate of a WV high school; 3) demonstrate financial need; and 4) have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

WVU SCHOOL OF NURSING ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is available to provide funds for the purchase of textbooks for sophmore and junior students in the School of Nursing. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and academic promise. Must file the FAFSA. Selection is made by the School of Nursing.  

LOAN OPPORTUNITY

DR. FRANK LEMOYNE HUPP SCHOLARSHIP LOAN FUND
Eligible applicants must be residents of WV for at least three years; be a current member of the WVNA or WVSNA; have financial need in postgraduate studies; and be of good moral character.  For additional information, contact the WV Nurses Assoc. at: PO Box 1946, Charleston, WV  25327  (304) 342-1169.

THE NORMAN W. SMITH EDUCATIONAL LOAN TRUST
The purpose of the "Norman W. Smith Educational Loan Trust" is to provide loans to students of Berkely County, WV who are pursuing a minimum of a B.S. degree in the field of ministry or medicine (including nursing, pharmacy and dentistry).  While priority will be given to Berkeley County, Morgan and Jefferson Counties can also be considered if resources permit. Loans are awarded on a semester basis by a selection committee consisting of four residents of Berkely County.  Members are from the Berkeley County Medical Society, Berkeley County Board of Education, Berkeley County Ministerial Assoc. and Shepherd College.  Completed applications must be received for the fall semester by April 15th and the spring semester by September 15th.  Applications may be obtained in the HSC Financial Aid Office, or by calling the Trust Department of Huntington National Bank (304) 348-4582.

NURSING STUDENT LOAN (NSL)
Federal loan program approved under Public Law 100-607.  NSL provides limited loan funds to participating institutions.  The maximum award for Nursing Student Loans is $2500 for the first academic year and $4000 for each of the final two years of study.  The interest rate is 5%.  No interest accrues during the in school period or during the 9-month grace period following graduation.  Loans are restricted to students who 1) are citizens or nationals of the United States, 2) are enrolled or accepted for enrollment at least half time and 3) demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA. Preference is given to full time students with "exceptional need". Must file FAFSA by March 1. Parental information is required regardless of dependency status.
