SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

APhA AUXILIARY/APhA FOUNDATION PHARMACY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

APhA Auxiliary awards nine $1000 scholarships each year.  Applicants must be active members of the APhA-ASP, and show academic promise.  Must demonstrate leadership skills through organizational and/or project involvement with the APhA-ASP Chapter or some other APhA-ASP initative.  For additional information and application requirements, visit their website.

AMERICAN FEDERATION FOR AGING RESEARCH (AFAR)

HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND

Several pharmacy scholarships are available through the Hispanic College Fund. The minimum requirements are: 1) must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident residing in the fifty states or Puerto Rico; 2) must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; 3) must plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student from Fall 2007-Spring 2008; 4) must plan to be enrolled in a college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. NATIONAL COMMUNITY PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION (NCPA)

LINDA ANNE NEWMAN PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship recipients must demonstrate financial need and high academic promise as determined by the appropriate officials of the WVU School of Pharmacy.  First preference will  be given to graduates of Robert C. Byrd High School, the successor school of Washington Irving High School.  Should there be no qualified students from Robert C. Byrd High School, preference shall go to WV residents who demonstrate the criteria stated above.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS (SDS)

The SDS program is authorized by section 737 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act.  The Secretary may make funds available to eligible schools for the purpose of providing scholarships to financially needy students from disadvantaged backgrounds enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full time health profession pharmacy students.  The SDS program provides financial assistance without a service or financial obligation.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Parent information is required, regardless of dependency status. 

US NAVY'S HEALTH SERVICE COLLEGIATE PROGRAM (HSCP)

Benefits of this program include a minimum of $1,900 monthly & eligible for promotion during the program.  Eligible for all active duty pay, leave, and other privileges.  Upon graduation you would be commissioned as a Lieutenant (0-3) Medical Service Corps Officer.  For more information or to apply contact Navy Recruiters ~ Willie Torres or Jacqueline Reck, 800-742-2972x5.

ASHP STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD & SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to student who has shown an interest in pharmacy practice in the organized health care setting and who has achieved academic excellence and has demonstrated leadership skills. 

THE BERNABEI INDEPENDENT PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to deserving pharmacy students who are residents of WV with first consideration given to those from Brooke or Hancock counties.

TOM & BEN CARSON PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is to be awarded to a WV resident.  The recipient shall demonstrate financial need and academic promise.

PAT & JIM CHASE PHARMACY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded to students in the School of Pharmacy that demonstrate academic promise and need.

CVS DRUG STORE, INC.
Preference given to those interested in community pharmacy. 

CVS CAREMARK CHARITABLE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to students in good academic standing and interested in a career in commuity pharmacy practice.

THE DEAN'S SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded for meritorious achievement. 

ANN DINARDI SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Awarded to pharmacy students who demonstrate need for financial assistance. 

DOHMEN DISTRIBUTION SCHOLARSHIP
This fund shall provide a scholarship in the amount of $500 per semester ($1,000 annually).  Recipient shall be a fourth year pharmacy student that has shown consistent interest in independent pharmacy practice in their first three years and has requested and/or completed their internships and rotations predominately at independent practices, as allowed by the experiential program.

EXLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients shall demonstrate academic promise and financial need.

THE FRUTH SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded to deserving and needy pharmacy students. 

THE HERBERT GOTTLIEB SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded on basis of financial need and academic achievement.  Preference given to WV residents.  Open to undergraduate and graduate students. 

ANTHONY GUIDO AND MARY GUIDO FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded to Pharmacy students with a preference given to West Virginia residents. Recipients shall demonstrate financial need.

Funds awarded to a deserving pharmacy student.

THE JAMES KYLE HARMAN SCHOLARSHIPS
Must demonstrate financial need and high academic promise.

JOSEPH & EDNA HUDACHEK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
Undergraduate scholarship for students enrolled at WVU School of Pharmacy. First consideration shall be given to students who are WV residents who demonstrate financial need and academic promise. Recipients one year are eligible for consideration in any other year.

HAROLD M. JOHNSON SCHOOL OF PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a pharmacy student who is a resident of Raleigh County in WV.  Must demonstrate academic promise and financial need.

THE RALPH S. JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIPS
Funds will be used to award scholarships to pharmacy students; not awarded every year. 

THE KROGER SCHOLARSHIPS
Funds awarded on the basis of need, academics and interest in community pharmacy. 

LOYALTY PERMANENT ENDOWMENT FUND SCHOLARSHIP
In 1959, the West Virginia Pharmaceutical Association made a contribution of $5500 to the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund to provide a scholarship for a pharmacy student in need of financial assistance. 

DR. CARL J. MALANGA PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awarded in the name of a former Associate Dean for the School of Pharmacy.  Funds will be used to provide an annual scholarship for students in the School of Pharmacy.  The recipients will be selected by the Dean of the school and the School of Pharmacy's Scholarship Awards Committee in conjunction with the WVU Office of Financial Aid.

Must demonstrate high academic achievement.

THE ANGELO MONACO SCHOLARSHIP
Students from southern WV given priority for any funds awarded. 

REBECCA SMITH MONTI MEMORIAL PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to female students entering their fouth year of study in the PharmD program.  Priority shall be given to students from McDowell County, WV with an interest in retail pharmacy practice.  Second consideration shall be given to WV residents.  Scholarship recipients shall demonstate high academic promise and financial need as determined by appropriate officials of the WVU Financial Aid Office and the School of Pharmacy.

GEORGE AND LYNNE SPRATTO PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCEAwarded to students in the Pharmacy Program at WVU. Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate academic excellence. Financial need may be a consideration. A student who is a recipient is eligible for consideration in subsequent years. Receipients will be selected by the School of Pharmacy in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid.

YVONNE STANLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients must demonstrate academic promise and financial need.

KENNETH STOLLINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to pharmacy students demonstrating academic promise and financial need. Preference to WV residents from Boone County with second preference being Logan County.

THE NACDS EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to deserving pharmacy students.

THE NEIGHBORCARE PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to deserving pharmacy students.

THE NEW RIVER PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to meritorious pharmacy students from Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Wyoming or Greenbrier Counties. 

THE OHIO-MARSHALL COUNTIES PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIPS
Funds to be used to award a scholarship to a pharmacy student selected from the Northern Panhandle of WV. 

OHIO VALLEY-CLARKSBURG, INC. SCHOLARSHIP
The Ohio Valley-Clarksburg Drug Company of Wheeling provides a scholarship each year for two students needing financial assistance. 

THE OWEN HEALTHCARE SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded to deserving pharmacy students.

THE PARKERSBURG/SOUTHEASTERN OHIO ACADEMY OF PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a deserving student from the geographic area of West Virginia around Parkersburg.

THE M.A PAVLICK AND H. PAVLECH SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships awarded to female pharmacy students. 

THE PERRIGO AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN NONPRESCRIPTION MEDICATION STUDIES
Awarded to the student with the highest academic performance in the Nonprescription Drug course.

THE RITE-AID/J. KYLE HARMAN SCHOLARSHIPS
The Rite-Aid Corporation provides scholarships each year for students demonstrating financial need. 

ROMEO & ELIZABETH REGA SCHOLARSHIPS
Preference given to deserving students from Berkeley County. 

THE RAY L. RIDGWAY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a needy pharmacy student in their initial year of study. Recipient must be a first-generation college student and preference is given to students from Ohio or Marshall counties of WV. 

THE EDWARD ROCKIS SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded to a WV resident in financial need. 

THE HARRY SCHIFF SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded to deserving pharmacy students. 

THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship for a student in need of financial assistance from Mercer, McDowell, Tazwell or Monroe counties. 

GERALD L. SPROWLS PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Provides scholarships to students enrolled in the pharmacy school to assist them in paying for tuition, books, laboratory fees, living expenses, and the like.

CHARLES STUMP FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
Provides scholarships for Wyoming County residents who are enrolled as first year students at the WVU School of Pharmacy.  Recipients shall demonstrate academic promise and financial need.  If there are no first year students from Wyoming County, second, third or fourth year students from Wyoming County may be considered.

THE EDWARD A. TOOMPAS EXTERNSHIP AWARD
Awarded to a deserving second year pharmacy student from Harrison County to offset their externship expenses during their experiential year.

LURANIA K. TOPAKAS PHARMACY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to students who show financial need and academic promise.  First consideration shall be given to applicants of at least second generation Greek descent regardless of the applicants residency.  Second consideration shall be given to applicants who are WV residents.

THE FRANK W. VIGNEAULT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded to a regularly enrolled female student. The award is based on financial need and high academic performance as determined by the appropriate officials of the WVU School of Pharmacy.

THE WAL-MART SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded to meritorious students exhibiting need, leadership and an interest in community pharmacy. 

THE WEST VIRGINIA PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Funds awarded to WV resident students demonstrating financial need. 

THE WEST VIRGINIA SOCIETY OF HEALTH SYSTEMS PHARMACISTS SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a deserving pharmacy student from WV.

THE WVU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION LOYALTY SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to deserving pharmacy students.

THE WVU SCHOOL OF PHARMACY ASP SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a student member of the WVU ASP chapter who has demonstrated high academic achievement and commitment to the profession of pharmacy.

THE JOHN AND EDNA WITTEN SCHOLARSHIPS
Funds awarded to WV resident students demonstrating financial need. 

THE ALBERT F. WOJCIK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a student with high academic promise and financial need with preference given to residents of WV and members of Lambda Kappa Sigma.
 
 

LOAN OPPORTUNITIES

R.O. BACHMAN MEMORIAL LOAN

Funds will be used for student loans in the School of Pharmacy as authorized by the Dean of the School of Pharmacy.  Must file the FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA by March 1.

DOCTOR OF PHARMACY LOAN

Alternative Loan offered through TERI.  Undergrad. and grad. students may borrow from $500 up to $20,000 annually based on the cost of education, less any financial aid received.  Repayment begins 9 months after graduation and you may take up to 25 years to repay.  Interest rate is Prime minus 2.5%.  Students may apply over the phone at 1-800-255-TERI.  You will need to request the Citizens Bank "Doctor of Pharmacy Loan".  Students may also pick up an application in the HSC Financial Aid Office.  This should be considered a loan of last resort. 

ECKERD PHARMACY STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Open to all students interested in a career in retail pharmacy with Eckerd.  Chosen applications will receive a loan that does not require repayment while enrolled in school.  There is a "No-Repayment" Option if you choose to complete certain requirements.  You must apply each year for consideration.  Application deadline is June 1st of every year.  For additional information, call 1-888-352-6383 OPT 1 EXT. 6628.

HEALTH PROFESSIONS PHARMACY LOAN

The Health Professions Pharmacy Loan program, which is a source of financial assistance through the federal government, provides loan funds to participating institutions.  The maximum annual award is the cost of attendance (subject to fund availability).  These loans are offered to students who:    1)  are citizens or nationals of the United States;  2)  are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full time student; and  3)  demonstrate financial need.  The interest rate is 5% simple interest.  Interest does not accrue during the in school or 12 month grace period immediately following graduation.   Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Parent information is required, regardless of dependency status. Loans for Disadvantaged Students are available to students who meet the federal definition of "disadvantaged".  The maximum annual award is the cost of attendance (subject to fund availability).  The interest rate is 5% simple interest.  No interest accrues during the in school period or the 12-month grace period following graduation.  Must file FAFSA.  Parent information is required, regardless of dependency status. NATIONAL COMMUNITY PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION (NCPA)

THE NORMAN W. SMITH EDUCATIONAL LOAN TRUST

The purpose of the "Norman W. Smith Educational Loan Trust" is to provide loans to students of Berkely County, WV who are pursuing a minimum of a B.S. degree in the field of ministry or medicine (including nursing, pharmacy and dentistry).  While priority will be given to Berkeley County, Morgan and Jefferson Counties can also be considered if resources permit. Loans are awarded on a semester basis by a selection committee consisting of four residents of Berkely County.  Members are from the Berkeley County Medical Society, Berkeley County Board of Education, Berkeley County Ministerial Assoc. and Shepherd College.  Completed applications must be received for the fall semester by April 15th and the spring semester by September 15th.  Applications may be obtained in the HSC Financial Aid Office, or by calling the Trust Department of Huntington National Bank (304) 348-4582.
