SOURCES OF FINANCIAL AID

There are four main sources of financial aid.  These include the federal government, the state government, the institution and private entities.  The federal government is the largest source of financial assistance.  Approximately 69% of all students at West Virginia University receive some type of aid.
 
 

 AID SPECIFIC TO CERTAIN DISCIPLINES OF STUDY

 Note:  All students are encouraged to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.  To be considered for all types of financial assistance medical, nursing, pharmacy & dental students are encouraged to list parent information on the FAFSA, regardless of dependency status.  Any scholarships awarded by West Virginia University, unless otherwise noted, do not require an additional scholarship application and are awarded primary on the basis of information submitted on the FAFSA and academic performance.

TYPES OF GENERAL FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

Grants  Gift aid, money which you do not repay, usually requires need.
Loans   Money which you do repay, usually after college.
Employment Money you can earn through a job during college.
Scholarships  Gift aid, based on academic performance, talent, or achievement in a specific category.
