Motor-Vehicle-Related Injuries

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional injury for all ages and the leading cause of death in the United States among persons aged 1–34 years. As a result, NCIPC’s Injury Research Agenda encourages research evaluating the types of information used to support successful policies and regulatory decisions for young drivers (e.g., graduated driver licensing laws), and research identifying situational factors associated with crashes involving adolescent drivers including driver distractions (e.g., cellular telephone use). The WVU ICRC has ongoing and proposed research specifically addressing these high priority topics.
