Knowledge Translation and Exchange (KTE)

The ICRC publishes over 50 peer-reviewed articles per year.  While scholarly articles are important for reaching the academic community, the information contained within does not always reach or influence practitioners and policymakers. Also, the findings communicated in these articles may often be difficult for non-academicians to interpret and use.  To address this challenge, ICRC will increase efforts to ensure that research findings reported in each scholarly article are translated into one-page, lay-oriented Research Alerts. These Alerts will include summarized “Key Findings” and a section entitled “How to Use These Findings,” which will convey the significance of the research and what actions it supports.  Research Alerts will be e-disseminated to a wide variety of policy and practitioner constituents via email, with links to electronic versions available for access (HTML) and download (PDF). Printed copies will also be available for mailing, and provided upon request.

Third, the Center will develop and disseminate new Injury Prevention Syntheses on select topics. As new research is published by Center faculty affiliates, the ICRC will not only prepare and disseminate Research Alerts as described above, but will also consider whether the new findings present an opportunity to review the available knowledge in the topic addressed by the new findings, and prepare and disseminate a synthesis that provides a topic overview (including descriptive epidemiology), information on contributing risk factors, an overview of prevention options, and information regarding what is known about their relative effectiveness in specific scenarios and environments. Injury Prevention Syntheses will also be proactively e-disseminated via email notifications that include links to electronic versions available for access (HTML) and download (PDF) from the Center Website. Printed copies will be available and provided upon request.  As Research Alerts and Injury Prevention Syntheses are developed, they will become a core component of the Center’s planned Injury Prevention Clearinghouse.
