Hope Tiesman

Hope TiesmanHope Tiesman is an epidemiologist with the Division of Safety Research at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).  Dr.Tiesman completed her MSPH in Epidemiology from the University of South Florida and her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Iowa.   Before she started graduate training at Iowa, Dr.Tiesman held a research position in the Department of Veterans Affairs where she developed and evaluated various occupational injury prevention programs.  While at the University of Iowa, she was a fellow in the occupational injury prevention research program at the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety.  Dr.Tiesman’s dissertation research utilized DoD databases to examine the role of early-carrer traumatic injuries on the risk of subsequent injury and disability.  She has an adjunct academic appointment in the Department of Community Medicine. 

Dr.Tiesman’s current research interests include the prevention of workplace violence, urban-rural disparities in injury risk, epidemiology of prescription drug abuse, and the development and evaluation of occupational injury prevention programs.
