HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER (HSC) INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION (IPE) SPEAKER SERIES

The HSC IPE Speaker Series was developed to expand the Office of Interprofessional Education's goal to integrate IPE for the five schools and multiple professional programs at WVU Health Sciences Center. The aim of the HSC IPE Speaker Series is to have a quality continuing education program that supports faculty in enhancing their own skills and  developing curricula for our students to improve the quality of healthcare regionally, nationally, and globally.

The HSC IPE Speaker Series, developed by Rachel T. Abraham, M.D., M.P.H., for the HSC Office for Interprofessional Education, was approved as an ongoing program in August 2014. It will provide continuing education credits (CDE, CME, CNE, CPH, Certificate of Attendance for OT and PT; pending credits for pharmacy) for the various disciplines. The HSC IPE Speakers Series will also provide certificate of attendance to students at the five schools – dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, OT & PT programs, as well as other established healthcare programs at the Health Sciences Center, other Academic programs as well as all from the Local and State Health departments.

"The IPE Speaker Series is integral to the educational efforts of the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health as well as continuing education for healthcare professionals. The theme for the second year (2015 and ongoing) is 'IPE in Action’."

This year's speakers have been awarded grants from the WVU HSC Office of IPE, through funding from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to support interprofessional practice through community-campus partnerships led by WVU HSC faculty and students.

TARGET AUDIENCE:  The target audience for the Health Sciences Center (HSC) IPE Speaker Series are faculty and students at the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and the Professional Programs including Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists, as well as other Academic programs and Local Health Departments in West Virginia.

WVU School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  Nursing, Dental, Pharmacy, Public Health, PT and OT continuing education credits will also be available.

The ongoing program "Health Sciences Center InterProfessional Speaker Series” has been approved to provide CME/CNE/CDE/CPH and other CE continuing education credits.
