Employees can be seen at our fully-equipped clinic in the Physician's Office Center in Morgantown or our physicians and nurses can provide services on site anywhere in the state. We offer a range of customized services for managing and monitoring the health of employees, including:
Primary Injury Care
We treat non-emergency injuries such as cuts and bruises, injury from falls or lifting, sprains of fingers, ankles, shoulders, knees and other joints. We can also coordinate with WVU Emergency Medicine physicians to offer rapid assessments of more seriously injured workers 24-hours a day. Follow-up and initial injury care involves determination of the factors that caused the injury to prevent further occurrences, explanation of recovery and treatment plans, management of the injury through rehabilitation, modified duty and/or specialist referral. Communication with patients, employers and workers' compensation providers is emphasized to facilitate patient recovery and return to work.
Physical Examinations
As specialists in the field, we perform a variety of physical examinations related to employment and the workplace, including:
- Pre-Placement and Executive Physicals: determine whether applicants/employees are medically and physically able to perform their roles. We will carefully review a patient's medical and occupational history before proceeding with the physical examination.
- Regulatory and Compliance Examinations: establish a medical baseline for employees in accordance with the appropriate regulatory agency (Department of Transportation, OSHA, Citizenship & Immigration Services), and to perform periodic medical monitoring when indicated.
- Fitness-For-Duty Examinations: confirm that employees can perform the required job duties unique to that position, including pilot examinations required by the FAA.
- Employee Wellness Examinations: establish baseline medical information as part of a company's voluntary health and wellness initiatives.
Specialist Care
When an injury is complicated or severe, we can refer patients to the full range of specialists found at West Virginia University Healthcare for further treatment. We handle all the details, including making the appointment and contacting the necessary parties. We consult with the specialist and continue to be involved throughout the course of treatment.
Drug Testing and Screening
Substance abuse and monitoring systems are key components of many companies' risk control program. The laboratory facilities at WVU Hospitals have the capabilities to perform a wide range of forensic drug testing and clinical services and 24-hour collection services are available through our Emergency Room. All results are carefully reviewed by one of our three certified Medical Review Officers.
