Applications / Web ServicesThe Application / Web Services department is dedicated to the ongoing success of educational initiatives at the Health Sciences Center. This group provides support to faculty, students, and staff for online education (SOLE and WebCT Vista/Blackboard), database design and development, web design and development, instructional design, public computing facilities, and software consulting and training. Online EducationSOLE (Secure OnLine Environment) is the portal for online education and information at WVU Health Sciences Center. It is a web-based tool for students to access courses and for instructors to build and maintain those courses. SOLE has been developed by internal staff as an open-ended system for online course development and management. SOLE began as a course management system, but has grown to become an environment for many other applications and resources. Support for WebCT Vista (Blackboard) is also provided by this unit to Health Sciences Center departments. Web and Database SupportDatabase and application support is provided to HSC departments through the Application/Web Services department. This unit supports and develops databases and supports new media projects ranging from web development and graphic design, to podcasting and video production for the Health Sciences Center. Public Computing Facilities / Software Consulting and TrainingInformation Technology Services staff provide a modern education-based computing center designed to give students a professional place to learn and study. Our software consultants assist students, faculty, and staff on the use of computers and technology for teaching, learning, and research. Workshops are offered on a variety of computing technologies ranging from productivity, instructional design, library resources, web technologies, digital devices, graphic arts, and specialty programs. The facility contains (2) 25 seat computing classrooms that can be combined into one 50 seat classroom if desired and 63 public access workstations. Wireless Internet is available throughout the facilities and other student areas located within the Health Sciences Center. |
