- Download vncviewer
- Stuffit Expander will run and you will see two new files on your Desktop. One is a Stuffit archive, the other is VNCViewer.img.
NOTE: If Stuffit Expander does not automatically run, you will see a VNCViewer Stuffit archive on your desktop.
Double-click it to have Stuffit Expander run and create the VNCViewer.img file.
- Double-click the VNCViewer.img icon.
- Disk Copy will launch. You will now see a VNCViewer disk drive icon on your desktop. A Finder window also opens
showing the contents of the VNCViewer disk.
- Create a new Finder window and navigate to where you would like to install VNCViewer
(e.g, the Applications folder in your Home folder.)
- Drag VNCViewer from the Finder window to your chosen destination.
- Installation is complete. Double-click the VNCViewer icon to run.
- Transferring (Uploading) files from local computer to gcg.hsc.wvu.edu
- Download Nifty Telnet
- You will need Stuffit Expander or a similar program to decompress the file niftytelnet-1.1-ssh-r3.cpt.
- When you decompress the .cpt file, you will get a folder called "nifty telnet-1.1-ssh-r3 folder." Put this wherever you want on your hard drive.
- Inside that folder you while find the following.
Navigator Telnet Fix (Application file)
Nifty Telnet 1.1 SSH r3 (Application file)
Nifty Telnet Guide (Help file)

- Open the Nifty Telnet program, Go to File on the menu bar and select "New Connection"
- Under the "New Connection" window, the host is gcg.hsc.wvu.edu and then click on the "SCP" button.
- The SCP window will open up.Select "Send files/folders"
- Click on the "Add Files/Folders" button to choose files and/folders from your hard drive you wish to copy.
- Under "Destination Path," enter where you want your files to go. ex. /export/home/username
- Click on "Start Copy" or hit "Return." You will be prompted for your username and password. Once entered the program begins the copy.
- Transferring files from gcg.hsc.wvu.edu to local host.
- Follow the first three steps above.
- When the SCP window opens, select "Receive Files/Folders."
- Under "Source File," enter the path for the file/folder you wish to copy. eg. /export/home/username
- Under "Download Folder," select where on your hard drive you want to copy your files.
- Click on "Start Copy" or hit "Return." You will be prompted for your username and password. Once entered the program begins the copy.
